Our Mission
The Office of the Sheriff is the only constitutionally mandated law enforcement agency in the State, and the Sheriff is elected by the people of the County. This is our mission.

About Us
The Sheriff's Office is the only law enforcement agency located within the County of Keweenaw. We are committed to all aspects of public safety and we work in partnership with all County based fire and medical agencies. The following are some of the services we provide.
- Full law enforcement services such as criminal investigations and traffic enforcement.
- Operate a fully accredited 72-hour lock up facility and provide jail services through contract with neighboring Counties for inmates incarcerated for more than 72 hours.
- Circuit and District Court security
- Marine, ORV and Snowmobile divisions
- Provide public assistance for non-emergency calls such as motorist assists.
- Sponsor a County wide Sheriff's Off-Road Rescue unit in conjunction with the Ahmeek Fire Department.
- Provide first responder medical services. Oversee and license all other County based medical first responder units.
- Work closely with local schools to provide educational and security support.
- Sponsor a yearly charity event called "Keweenaw County, No Kid without a Christmas" to provide gifts and clothing for the less fortunate.
- Sponsor a yearly "Public Safety Day" to facilitate interaction and communication between the public and the law enforcement, fire, medical and road safety agencies that serve them.
- We are committed to providing mutual support and cooperation with all State and neighboring County law enforcement agencies.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a part-time Deputy. We are team-oriented group that is committed to providing the highest level of public safety and law enforcement services to the residents and guest of our County. Qualified applicants must be Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Certified or MCOLES licensable by the date of hire.
